Furaha African Dance Company was honored to perform at Beyond Juneteenth, an inspiring celebration held at the Wilmington Art Museum that brought together history, culture, and community in a meaningful way.
The event offered a rich cultural experience, featuring moving performances, traditional foods, and powerful tributes that honored the legacy of our ancestors. One of the most memorable moments was witnessing the Native American tribute, which beautifully acknowledged the importance of honoring the first stewards of the land while recognizing the shared histories that connect our communities.
Performing alongside other talented artists in an atmosphere of reflection and celebration made the experience especially meaningful for both our dancers and audience members.
Beyond Juneteenth was more than a performance. It was an opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate the diverse cultures and histories that continue to shape our communities. We are grateful to the Drop Squad Kitchen for the invitation and for creating a space where culture, education, and remembrance came together so beautifully.
Experiences like these remind us that honoring our ancestors is not only about remembering the past, but also about carrying their legacy forward through art, education, and community.
