2nd Annual Delaware County MLK Day of Service | Events in Review | Chester CAAT Center

This MLK Day, in partnership with Widener and the Foundation of Delaware County, the CAAT Center curated a day of service for the city of Chester that honored the life and legacy of Dr. King in a huge way!

We started the morning off with breakfast provided by Widener University to fuel us for our day of community driven activities, after which we began our peace march from the campus to City Hall. One of the biggest concerns of our neighbors in Chester is the cleanliness of the city; we made a small step in the right direction by tidying up and beautifying our downtown area. We also made warming kits for our homeless population- complete with gloves, handwarmers, and PPE supplies.

After our delicious lunch, which was catered by Aunt B’s Country Cooking, we were treated to inspirational words from our CAAT CEO, Tara Jones, as well as community leaders including Councilwoman Carol Kazeem and Councilwoman Monica Taylor. Governor Shapiro also shared a few words with us, marking this as his first time visiting in Delaware County!

We ended our night with an epic poetry slam that brought out so many talented artists and creatives!

All in all, we had a wonderful time coming together for the good of our community! The spirit of unity and harmony was palpable, and proved to us that together we are a mighty force! Memories of the day include three Martin Luther King inspired murals- painted by everyone who joined us for the day- that will be placed publicly throughout the county.

As always, next year promises to be bigger and better! Please stay tuned into our website for more information on 2025’s MLK Day Celebration which will be officially announced later this year!
